Reading this brought a smile to my face because I bought a portable typewriter to type in the woods too with my tiny camper. Am so looking forward to getting back on the road again soon.

Enjoy your respite and thank you for sharing.

      Hi Ray,

What kind of typewriter are you using, and in what part of the country do you camp? I made my site private to prevent AI from scraping my material. A fruitless endeavor, I’m sure. I don’t like how human creativity is being used by AI—and without permission.

      Cheers,
      Andrew

Ah, can’t blame you for wanting to block the AI’s I’ve had to block public access to my company’s online forums because their bots were overloading our servers. Crazy times.

A recently acquired a dinged up but functional Hermes 3000 after wrestling too long with a Brother portable and getting sore arms, shoulders and nerves from the pounding, ha. The Hermes is supposed to be a lot lighter on the keys so I’ll find out soon enough.

I live out of my tiny camper so I camp all over the continent from Canada, the States, and Mexico. Currently I’ve been “dry-docked” while recovering from a broken ankle (slipped off a mountain trail, sigh).

Maybe I’ll meet you in your neck of the woods and we can bang away on our typewriters in solidarity for our love of analog and nature.

The Hermes 3000 is one of the best typewriters out there. I acquired one from Goodwill.com years ago. It took a lot of cleaning, and I had to add new knobs. It’s an excellent machine.

Ah, I recall reading about your incident. Ouch. I’m probably going to get helicopter insurance in the future. I also use a Garmen for satellite communication. Even with Musk’s Starlink cluttering the skies, I often have no cell when I go mountain-biking.
