A happy worker is a good worker, and I think some of our happiness derives from tailoring our work habitats to our personal liking. Ever since I adopted the use of typewriters to grade student papers and conduct other work, I have derived a level of pleasure in my labor. I read papers on my iPad and type responses on my typewriter. Today I bought the book holder seen propping up the iPad in this photo. First. it prevents my iPad from constantly falling over; second, it complements the aesthetics of my home office. Believe it or not, this work practice/ritual has doubled my output. Efficiency isn’t everything, but, well, sometimes it is.
