I forget the other bird program we used besides Merlin. There is also RedAlert that is almost a necessity in FL during hurricane season as well as one or two other weather alert p(I’m old decrepit and have CRS) I don’t recall that were also great for hazardous weather. The RouteFinder app works better than my $300 Garmin. I also used a compass and Topo maps app. Since FL I’ve regressed to a plain old flip phone. I miss some of the engineering apps I used, but Mrs. M’s smart phone suffices if Ineed one.
I still like the range and high quality audio of the old analog cell phones that did not track my every move.

Thanks for the reminder, Bill. I need a hurricane app! Picked up a good topo map, too.

These do sound like useful apps that help you pay attention to nature, not turn away from it.

Sadly, using the astronomy app is the only way I can “see” stars in South Florida. Utter light pollution.

The other bird app Mrs. M has is eBird from Cornell Lab of Ornithology.

Thanks, Bill. FYI: According to the reviews, some people have issues with eBird’s privacy issues—not sure if those reviews have any merit to them.

I use the Safer Seas app by Surfers Against Sewage. I think it’s just a UK specific app but it’s really useful in season. Sadly no info given by the water companies out of season for sewage spills and bad water quality which seems stupid to me since a lot of water sports go on throughout the year!

Hm. Some people seem to be doing great things with this tech. By the way, sorry about Prince Harry. I guess he’s running for US president this year. 🙃

Haha, I think he and Meghan are well out of it. I only knew that he’d dropped out because of the YouGov opinion poll app daily questions. I’m having a break from all the news and it’s great! I feel like I’m on a wonderful retreat off-planet somewhere, I can check in as I pass planet earth every so often but I only get tiny snippets of news.

Nothing depresses Donald and Boris more than low ratings. Enjoy the rings of Saturn!
