This machine seems to disprove my theory that all Optima Elites had elite type. I can’t be certain, but that type sure looks like pica to me, and the numbers on the paper bail seem to back that up.
I’ve heard nothing but good things about the Optima Elite from other owners, but I seem to be the exception. Mine is a definite “meh,” with a typing action that’s serviceable but underwhelming. Furthermore, nothing about its feature set seems out of the ordinary. I feel vaguely cheated!
I’ll have to take a closer look at the type face. It does sound like you have a lemon. Half the time our reviews have less to do with the make and model and more to do with the personal history of the machine. I’m not a big fan of my SCs, but that might just be my SCs. I guess you’d have to use ten or so of one model before making a serious judgment.
