Part II of Today’s Live Typecast.

Reporting live from the site of Broward College’s North Regional Library:

Activity really picked up in today’s second half. We moved the tables a little closer to the foot traffic. (Not sure why they buried us in the archives. Conspiracies abound!) We asked one bookseller if she could move her sign over. The organizers of the event could use a little more experience. That said, all went well. People of all ages sat down at the hypnotic machines. Some experienced nostalgia. Others struggled but pondered deeply as they pecked at the keys. Many conversations issued forth from a wellspring of dazzling thinkerly wordisms and typographical yawps. Remember the days when Uncle Max was a reporter . . . I love the bell and clacking . . . What the devil does this lever do?

Professor Ernesto Marx and I converted some passersby to the joy and zen of deliberate word-making. Drafts matter. Mistakes become pathways to new ideas. Ain’t nobody hacking this mechanical tank. Clack clack clack, ring, frrrooooop and go!

We even have some typescripts for the annals of typed history. See below. Oh boy, just realized the Bruins are still on the TV. 2-0 lead in the 2nd period. Better cover that story, after which the South Carolina votes will be tallied. Good night and good luck, America. You’re gonna need it.

It’s great things got busier! Hopefully new converts to typing or reignited interest from those who used to use a typewriter.

By the way, saw your post on California Typewriter (can’t to seem to comment with my Google settings). Very sad news.

It was a fun! That’s an Olympia SG1. The cover and body were mismatched to create a two-tone look.
