Beautiful place for some first class camping. Good you are able to get out before getting back to the daily grind of teaching, if teaching can be compared to the daily grind of life.
I bought a fleece liner for my rectangular bag that is quite good by itself here in the MI summers, and it increases the bag insulation enough I can use it in the winter although I still prefer my US Army CW and ECW sleeping gear.
I knew some crazy fellows who used to go archery hunting for black bears.
Fleece liner. Good idea! One of my students from last year bow-hunts with her family. Her dream is to hunt for a Kodiak in Alaska. No thank you! I couldn’t kill a bear anyway. I like them too much.
Turkey hunting is the most challenging of any hunting. I used to use a 22 cal. rifle for a head shot. Many people use a shotgun. I’m unsure where I’d aim with a bow. A broad head seems it would ruin too much and a straight tip generally won’t kill.
In any case I never saw any reason to kill something just for the sake of killing it and perhaps hanging its dead head on my wall or having a bear rug.
Nice!
Did you build the fire ring yourself? Surely so, since you’re not at a regular campsite, but it looks professionally done. Kudos!

I did! Thank you. Plenty of dead wood to gather, too. Nice and toasty.

Bow-hunting: for when just shooting them isn’t cruel enough.

True. How often is a hunter accurate enough to ensure an immediate death? I’ve thought about hunting wild turkey. Will I? I don’t know.

Oh sure. If I ever hunt, it will be for food. As you can imagine, the tribal populations near me don’t hunt just for sport.
