Mostly in PA and VA. I did a little in the Finger Lakes region of NY with some friends I knew from there. My philosophy was what fit the paniers and on the bike rack or handle bar bag went. Anything else but a small backpack stayed home. I never liked full size packs like I saw other people using. To me it meant a high center of gravity and unstable ride.
Must have been great. I’ll probably have to wear a small backpack (light clothes inside). With full suspension, I have no room for a frame bag. Water is going on the frame and around my waist. I don’t want to be top-heavy. Then a saddle bag, handlebar bag (tent, sleeping bag), and a front wheel bag if necessary. Hopefully I won’t need the latter.
I don’t know which I like best; the mountain or the valley.
Sounds like an interesting trip. i never bikepacked in the West.

I’m pumped. Just need to think about how to load the bike. Where did you bike pack?
