Love going camping with your typewriter! Do you bring a random assortment or have a steady? I recently bought a decent Hermes 3000 to take camping with me. It’s a little beat up but perfect for the outdoors.
I’ve camped in El Morro’s campground – it was peaceful and great to be able to walk over at sunset. Good to know the cafe is still there.
I usually bring my Hermes Rocket, but it’s being used in class. Very reliable. Now I’m camping with my Olivetti Lettera 22. I drive a Subaru hatchback Impreza, so I need a small machine amid all the camping supplies. I’ll sometimes use a small Olympia, too.
Cibola was always my go-to territory, up in McGaffey. Now I camp on some land I have near Ramah. Very similar terrain. It’s nice to have a guaranteed spot.
El Morro is great. Not a big adventure, but beautiful. I used it as a home base to try out my bike-packing rig a couple of years ago. Less traffic down there.
Is your 3000 boxy or curved? I have the former, but I love the older style.
Good to see you are enjoying some camping and typing.
I’ve never taken a typewriter camping.
I used to spend a month in MT usually mid Oct. to at least mid Nov.
I noticed after about a week in the mountains, no, or at least much less, tinnitus.
You need to find a round Hermes 3000 to use. Typing action is much nicer than on any of the boxy ones I have or have used. I have one each from 1966 when the body style was changed.
I usually take both to Type-Ins and get similar responses, the curved are nicer than the boxy. I think the mechanics were changed even though most people say the mechanics are the same. Perhaps it was the manufacturing process, but something seems different.
I hope to do some more camping before winter. The fire ban shortens the season, although I have a gas heater for cold nights. Right now my site is still set up on the property, and I’m hoping the monsoon rain hasn’t caused any problems. I’ll find out next weekend!
I’m with you on nature as course correction. A few nights under the ponderosas, rain on the tent, a balky Royal to set right, and the phone stops looking like a portal. It looks like a nervous tic. Even the squirrels have better technology.
Grading papers under a tarp isn’t quite so fun, but I noticed that I work faster when I’m off-grid-ish. Even work increases in quality. Then I get back to watching ravens.
Those gas heaters (catalytic) are quite nice and with an added tarp over the tent or a weather liner can keep the frostiness out of the tent and make it quite comfortable.

Were you camped in the Cibola National Forest?

The Hermes is boxy, I do like the curved ones too but they were quite a bit more costly.
Great you have your own camping spot out yonder. That’s special.
Enjoy and maybe I’ll wander your way again soon.

I think I found what works for comments. I can’t post with my email associated with WP for some reason, but it likes Yahoo!

Hope the rain leaves you sit undamaged.
