First Skyriter I’ve seen with anything but a US keyboard. I love these typewriters for travel. I have several, and I have some of the others mentioned. I’ll pick a Skyriter any day when I travel.
I was contemplating getting an ultra portable, but wasn’t sure which one. Your criteria of small, solid, quiet, is what would suit me too, so I’ll keep a lookout for one in the UK. I believe there was a UK version made by another company, but I forget which.
“Ultra”—that’s the word! I wonder, are you a heavy typer? I’ve played guitar for years and I sometimes tinker with the piano. I think this affects my typing style. I also noticed a number of musicians were in the typewriter groups on Facebook.
By the way, I never mastered those blues riffs you articulate so well. My playing can be a bit frenetic and rushed, having developed my chops in the age of Steve Vai.
I wouldn’t say I’m a heavy typer. I’ve only recently “discovered” typewriters, and at first I found carriage-shift typers really difficult to use all four fingers on. But I’ve been doing most of my recent typing on an Imperial Good Companion 5, which has segment shift, and that is a lot easier for my pinkies. I have good independence of finger movement, but find the downward push onto the keys seems to use different muscles than when playing guitar.
As for guitar playing, I’ve never been into that Vai shredding stuff, and wouldn’t have a clue how to do it. Give me BB King over that any day! 🙂 In a world of fast and loud, I like to say I can play slower and quieter than anyone!

I had completely miss-guessed its manufacturing date. I thought they were made in the 1960s.

I had a chance at a Skywriter a few months ago and passed, to my continuing regret. But I know I’ll have plenty of other chances.
