That sure is a fine looking SM9. You have my favorite version — the one with the green shift keys. I enjoy my SM9 much more than any of the SM7 typewriters I’ve used. The SM9 machines seem to be real workhorses that require little effort to use.
There’s something about an Olympia. I use an SM3 and agree with your assessment. I can almost will the slugs to the paper via telekinesis. They are that sensitive and frisky. Since I am a crap typist (it’s a real term, really… look it up) my copy looks a bit smeary. But, at the end of an extended session I am not hand fatigued and am not accidentally jamming my fingers betwixt the keys.
I don’t think that I’ll ever find a better machine than my SG1, but it has as much to do with my typing style and finger pressure as it does with its performance. Perfect match. My SM9 is really too effortless, but that’s a “it’s me, not you” issue. Overall, Olympias are fantastic machines, and I love that Olympia never gave into the pressures to produce a lightweight machine.

And it’s built and weighs like a tank. Classic Olympia. What’s the negative on the SM7s? I bid on a blue one once.
