We drove down to Bandera, Texas to meet Gary Taylor about his Hammond Multiplex, his last typewriter from his father’s (George Taylor) typewriter business (repair and sales). Gary runs the Western Trail Antiques. I ran into him the other day at the antique mall. We started talking typewriters (no fish biting at the mall). He said he had an older typer with which he might consider parting. His wife, Paulette, sent me photos of the Hammond the next day. I had to have it. I’ve been looking for a Hammond for a few years. This Hammond Multiplex, manufactured somewhere between 1913 to 1917, is in great shape. It has all kinds of goodies but no cover. I’ll take it on the plane with me. We made the exchange in Gary’s private saloon, which was full of Western treasures–including some shots of tasty rye. I shall take good care of your father’s typewriter, Gary. It’s in good hands and is now the prize of my antique collection.
