Like all typewriter collectors, I’m always on the hunt for a rare typewriter at a good price. I frequently look up Torpedo, Triumph, Erika, Halda, and Continental typewriters, but rarely find them at attractive prices. Tonight I had some luck birding. I discovered a 15A Blue Bird typewriter being sold for a decent price from the UK. The machine looks to be in great condition, albeit the case is in only fair condition. I forgot to copy the photos before sealing the deal, which means that I can’t access the photos anymore. What’s the point of that feature, Ebay? As Messenger points out, Blue Birds were Torpedos marketed for the international consumer. The 15A has a flat body which I’m sure was popular for travel. I hope its flight to Florida is speedy and safe.

You seem to be doing what I plan to do next year…focus on a few remarkable models and search out great examples of them. I’m vicariously enjoying the hunt!

I guess that IS what I’m doing. I also admitted that there are some machines that I’ll never see in my backyard. Hence the transatlantic shipping. Although I am worried about what these typewriters will think of Florida: “What is this? An alligator? Does it eat typewriters? Are you listening to Jimmy Buffet again? Help.”
